History of Tennis courts

“Marvin Groede, WPA official from Topeka, made a business visit to Belleville offices Friday. The NYA employees lately working on the Scandia school grounds retaining wall project, completed the job last week.”

Belleville Telescope (Belleville, Kansas) 7 April 1938.

“NYA workers of the county have completed the wall. The tennis court and play ground across the highway to the west of the school ground will be rebuilt by the NYA labor with a retaining wall on the south and west sides.”

Scandia High News (Scandia, Kansas) 15 April 1938

“Scandia Lions Club wants to say thank you to all who have worked at the new tennis courts and skating rink. This project will be a wonderful addition to the city in the years to come and should provide many hours of entertainment to the residents of Scandia and surrounding community. The cement work is all completed and only some dirt work and fencing remains to be done.”

Scandia Journal (Scandia, Kansas) 17 September 1964

“The wire fencing and net have been completed at Scandia’s new tennis court and two new lights have been installed.”
